Shankari & Ananda Shanti Band - North Shore Community Kirtan

Shankari, an experienced therapist specializing in Psycho-Spiritual & Somatic work in her private practice in the peaceful town of Magnolia, MA. Alongside her therapeutic services, she also organizes rejuvenating retreats in the serene landscapes of Maine.
For over thirty years, Shankari has devoted herself to mastering and teaching the various aspects and branches of yoga. Through her extensive studies with spiritual mentors and transformative trips to India, she discovered a deep passion for playing the dotar and harmonium. These musical instruments became her vessels for sharing the profound essence of sacred chants. Kirtan, a form of Bhakti yoga, is lovingly referred to as the yoga of love or the path of devotion.
In the enchanting presence of Shankari, the group embarks on a captivating journey of call and response. With her guidance, she is accompanied by Jay McGuinness, a seasoned musician who adds his own touch of grace to the Ananda Shanti experience.
Thad Fulmer, also a skilled musician proficient in the bass guitar. Together they create mesmerizing and healing melodies that resonates with the hearts of all.

What is Kirtan?

Kirtan is transcendental spiritual music and a meditation practice also described as Bhakti Yoga or Nada Yoga. Its origins come from Eastern Indian and Budhist culture. In its tradition, Kirtan is recited as a call and response chanting from the vocal leader to the audience, who then recites or echos back the same lyrics. By chanting in this way, the sounds and voices raise a very high conscious vibration that reverberates within and outside of you, opening up energy channels. This practice calms and quiets the mind. You don't need to have any previous experience to attend a Kirtan. All spiritual faiths are welcome.
